Dorothea Lange was one of the first artists Activists.
She documented the plea of poor migrant workers during the Great Depression and Japanese Americans in interrment camps after WWII. She drew country-wide media attention to the plight of both. Her photo Migrant Mother, is one of the most famous image in the world and is still being taught in Art history courses as an example of visionary early 20th century journalism.
